Based on recent studies, it appears that it is ice-like linear elements of hydration in cubic ice conformations, which form repetitively on lipid and poly-ionic surfaces, that not only assist in the assembly of proteins and nucleic acids, but in regulating interactions between all the molecules in living cells.
